Another fun little illustration for the day job.
I'm always impressed by other illustrators who have really mastered texture, something I'd like to work on and explore more. I brought in a little bit of texture to this one, but it's still pretty subtle. Also trying out a blur to the background to create more of a sense of depth.
The treehouse of my childhood dreams, a new illustration for my company's website.
If you're not familiar, CARDED! is a trading card art show. 50 artists are chosen, and their cards printed up and put into a random assortment pack, as well as displayed on the gallery walls. You come out, buy some packs, and trade for your faves.
I can't tell you enough how completely fun this show experience is. Last year's show was a packed house, barely enough room to move, and everyone seemed to be having a great time. I like to pride myself on my bartering skills, and I definitely walked away from the show with a collection of very cool cards.
What I'm saying is, you should go. I'll be there, Exploding Haggis will be there, and fun will be had.
There's nothing like the deadline of a show looming to inspire you! So with a show scheduled at the Gumboot Garden Café in Roberts Creek I set myself a monthly painting goal for this little group of critter-themed watercolours. I didn't have much of a plan setting out, I just wanted to see what would come out. The important bit was just to actually paint, instead of talking about how much I miss painting.
I started up with watercolours again in the last few years, mostly because people keep having babies, and I think a little painting makes a pretty nice baby gift. Hopefully they are as fun to look at as they were to make.
